Charlton boss unconcerned by defeat and focuses on Bolton

Charlton Athletic manager Guy Luzon says he was unconcerned by Tuesday night’s defeat to Southend United, and has emphasised the importance of the Addicks’ final pre-season match against Bolton this Friday.

A youthful Charlton side featuring 12 academy players was defeated 2-1 by Southend, and the Addicks boss believes that Friday’s friendly is of greater importance as the side gears up for their season opener against QPR next weekend.

Speaking about the game, Luzon said: “It was a good experience for our young players in the academy to play against a good team. They played very well.”

“We are focused on the game at Bolton. It’s the last game before the league starts against QPR and for us it is very important that we play with players who have a chance to play against QPR.”

When asked if his players had been affected by the pressure applied by Southend on Tuesday night, the former Standard-Liege boss said: “I don’t think there’s any pressure in this game. It was a totally friendly game.
